Panama Schools

History of Education:

After its independence from Colombia in the year 1903, public education was started in Panama. The goal of education at the beginning was to educate the child according to his/ her social status. The view however, changed drastically with the influence of the United States and became more progressive and universal. Later on, attempts were made to educate the people at least in the primary level. Numerous primary schools were set up for the purpose. Men and women were equally educated and although there had been numerous changes in the policies of the government through the past years, in the 1950 s and 80 s, education spread rapidly.

Panama’s School Information

The first six years of primary education is compulsory. In the year 2004/2005 school there were about 430,000 students enrolled in grades one through six. Balboa Academy, Colegio Isaac Rabin, Colegio Javier, Colegio San Augustin, Crossroads Christian Academy, The International School of Panama, Academia Interamericana de Panama and The Oxford School of Panama are some of the renowned educational institutes. They offer diverse academic programs, provide safe environment and endeavors to build the values of self respect and try to develop an inter-community respect in the student’s mind.
