Panama Information
The Flag
The flag of Panama was sketched by the son of Manuel Amador Guerrero and created by Maria Ossa de Amador in 1903. The flag made its way to Panama City after avoiding the Colombian army.
The Panama flag is a representation of the political scenario in the country at the time when it was designed and created. The Panama flag consists of a rectangle that is divided into four equal sections. The upper section of the flag close to the pole is white and has a five-sided blue star on it. The color white represents the purity and peace with which the political parties function in the country, while the blue star is also a symbol of purity and honesty. The top section of the flag, away from the pole, is red and depicts the liberal party in the country. The lower section of the flag close to the pole is blue and symbolizes the conservative party in the country. The lower section of the flag, away from the pole, is white and bears a five-sided red star that represents the law and authority in Panama.
Rich History
Panama has a rich and interesting history and due to its location between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean it has been frequented by people from many countries. This has added to the flavor of Panama’s rich culture and truly made it a cultural melting pot. The flag that was originally designed for Panama by the English artist Langdon Spencer Sugar was designed on the lines of the flag of the United States of America, perhaps because of the role the country played in the independence of Panama. The flag also represented the country’s connection with Spain and Colombia. The flag had two connected suns to depict the Americas and the country’s location to them. This flag was not accepted as it was designed by a foreigner. Perhaps it was also rejected because it seemed to symbolize this tropical haven in relation to its neighbors and not just as an independent nation.
Tourism and Real Estate
Panama offers some of the most beautiful sights on earth and not surprisingly receives millions of tourists every year. It is no wonder that so many visitors opt to buy real estate in this beautiful country where its flag waves ever so high.
