Panama Land

One of the main reasons tourist are moving in to buy Panama real estate is that it is the Melting Point of cultures, and as tourists we are always looking to find more interesting cultures. Panama is a beautiful country which is located in the southernmost part of North America and it is a melting point of the cultures of both the Northern and Southern part of America. There are two coastlines of Panama. They are known as Caribbean (or Atlantic) and Pacific coastline rather than the north and south coasts of Panama. To the east lies Colombia and to the west is Costa Rica. The location of the country is such that it is very difficult to express the position of the country in terms of its directions. There is a place called Cerro Jefe, near Panama City. From Panama it is possible to see both the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. Thus, Panama is the only land in the world from where one can witness the sunrise in the Pacific and the sunset in the Atlantic.

Panama’s Country

The country of Panama has been subdivided into 12 provinces. There are also a number of indigenous comarcas in Panama. The border land which was formed in the year 1903 did not change since then. In Panama, the provinces are divided into districts. The districts of Panama are again subdivided into smaller sections called corregimientos. There are two important boundaries of this country with Columbia and Costa Rica.

Coastal Panama

In the Caribbean coastline of Panama there are several good natural harbors. The only important port in the Caribbean coastline in Panama is called Cristóbal.  There are a large number of islands of the Archipelago de Bocas del Toro, adjacent to the Beaches of Costa Rica in Panama. They provide scenic beauty to Panama and are a base for the banana plantation. One can discover as many as 350 San Blas Islands near Colombia. They extend for more than 160 kilometers along the protected Caribbean coastline.

The principal port on the Pacific coastline of Panama is named Balboa. The principal islands consist of those which are present in Archipiélago de las Perlas in the middle of the Gulf of Panama, the penal colony on the Isla de Coiba in the Golfo de Chiriquí, and the pretty isle of Taboga. They are great tourist places and are visible from the land of Panama. There are a total of 1,000 islands in the Pacific coast in Panama.

The costal waters of the Pacific Ocean in Panama are generally shallow. They hardly have a huge depth and the depth is 180 meters at certain points in the coastal land in Panama. There are also wide mud flats that stretch up to 70 kilometers in the seaward side along the coastline. There is an extreme tidal range at this land in Panama. It is 70 centimeters between high and low water on the Caribbean coast while on the other hand it is 700 centimeters on the Pacific coast.

Mountainous Region

The most important feature of Panama’s landform is the presence of the central spine of mountains and hills that comprise the continental divide. The divide of Panama however is not a part of the great mountain chains of North America. It should be noted that the highlands near the Colombian border in Panama are the only highlands related to the Andean system of South America. The spine which creates the great divide in Panama is very much eroded and is supposed to have arisen from the bottom of the sea. It is formed by the volcanic intrusions of Panama.

The mountain range in Panama which makes the divide is known as the Cordillera de Talamanca near the Costa Rican border. In the eastern side it becomes Serranía de Tabasará. The portion which lies close to the lower saddle of the isthmus, near the Panama Canal, is known as Sierra de Veraguas. The entire range of mountains that lies near Costa Rica in Panama and the great canal in Panama is also called by Panamanian geographers as the Cordillera Central.

However, the highest point in the country of Panama is called Volcán Barú, and the height of this land is 3475 meters (11401 ft). The peak of a highland that consists of the nation’s richest soil, the Volcán Barú in Panama is usually called a volcano. This volcano had been inactive for a long period time. From the Balboa Hill in Panama, you can see both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

There are almost 500 rivers in the land of Panama. The landscape in Panama is actually very rugged. It is almost un-navigable.  Most of the rivers in Panama highland originates from swift highland streams, meander in valleys, and form the coastal deltas. The Río Chepo and the Río Chagres are important sources of hydroelectric power in Panama. The Kampia Lake and Madden Lake provide hydroelectricity for a vast extension of Panama land.

Tropical Panama

Panama has a tropical climate which predominates all year round. The temperature in Panama is usually high but there is little seasonal variation in Panama. While the days have a high temperature, the nights are usually cooler in Panama. The soft breeze from the sea is available for the entire day. The temperature of the land of Panama seldom exceeds 32 degree Celsius.

Panama has tropical plants, grasslands, scrub, and crops and 40 percent of the land forested.  Panama is a land of wisdom and natural elegance. It is a place where nature in its myriad manifestations allures tourists in Panama.
