TourismMuch of Isla Grande is protected and open only to limited tourism. There are no roads and most of the island is not accessible. Hopefully, the restrictions will protect this gorgeous, emerald paradise. It has been said that if there is a paradise on earth, it is Isla Grande. Covered by virgin tropical rainforest, there are two walking trails, one leading to a lighthouse and the other leading to the other side of the island where you will find a postcard -perfect beach, known as La Punta. The beach is surrounded by coral reefs, which give the water a greenish hue. Further down the beach, the waters are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving.
The lighthouse affords a panoramic view of the vast horizon, an infinite space dotted with green, hilly islands where palm trees sway gently next to crystal blue waters. If you are interested in going up the lighthouse you have to go through an opening on the fence around it, and then walk up a staircase in the shape of a snail shell that is very long. Once at the peak there is a small balcony around the top where you can feel the wind blowing strongly. The view is awesome. To the north, you can see Tambor Island, the northernmost point in Panama, to the south La Guaira and Juan Gallego and further south the Linton and Cabra Islands. |
