Chiriqui is the Latest Tourist Destination
Chiiqui is located on the southwest extreme of the republic. Its borders are in the north with Bocas del Toro, the Pacific Ocean on the south, Veraguas on the east and the neighboring country of Costa Rica on the west.
This westernmost province of Panama’s Pacific coast is the newest tourism destination with an abundance of natural resources like: mountains, sea, islands, rainforest, coral reefs, trails, volcanoes, and beaches, most of which are enclosed in national parks. It also has a plentiful amount of natural reserves with rich Indian cultural roots, like the Ngobe Indians, in an environment naturally designed to make a lot of activities like scuba diving, trekking, snorkeling, rafting, canoeing, fishing, bird watching and many more. |

Natural LandscapeThe natural landscape of this province encompasses coastal plains to steep mountains of which the highest is the Volcan Baru (Baru volcano) at 3475 Meters high. The highlands are of volcanic origin and occupy most of the territory along the continental divide (it serves as a border with Bocas del Toro). The towns in the highland such as Boquete, Volcan and Cerro Punta (to name a few) enjoy a mild climate. Rainfall is abundant in those areas. Its climate makes Chiriqui one of the most productive regions in the country. They produce some of the best oranges and coffee, as well as strawberries in Cerro Punta. Cattle and farms are also very abundant in this province. |

It isn’t all mountains. The province has just about everything from the casino at the comfortable Gran Hotel Nacional in the capital city of David, to deep-sea fishing and white sand beaches which stretch to infinity. Bird watchers will find almost 1,000 species. Including the Distinguised Quetzal, who claims Chiriqui as his southernmost- abode.
The word “Chiriqui” means “Valley of the Moon” in their native language. This is a lovely province with a diversified landscape, from the white sandy beaches on the coast through the plains up to the green mountain forests. There is something here for everyone to do. |

DavidDavid, the capital city, is on the costal plain, and it is the third largest province in Panama. The town center is known as Barrio Boliva and there stands the St. Joseph Cathedral. It is a colonial neighborhood where the main attractions are the Jose de Obaldia History and Art Museum. Jose de Obalda was the founder of Chiriqui. Also, David is the market town and center for the thriving agriculture and cattle industry which is the mainstay of the province. It is known as “cattle country” and the Nation’s prime thoroughbred-raising area. It is not quite a frontier, but the feeling is there. Ten minutes down the road from the city’s capital at the port of Pedregal, boats can be chartered for fishing. It is said that this is a fisherman’s haven, and if your into beaches, Las Olas Beach Resort and La Barqueta Beach to the west of the city welcome visitors, as well as the extensive Las Lajas beach. |
Fabulous InvestmentSo, if you are looking for a wide variety of attractions, including highlands, as well as beach destinations, Indian cultures, idyllic retirement communities, world class rafting, kayaking and hiking, then Chiriqui is the place to invest in. |
