Beautiful Boquete and it's Location

Boquete is a beautiful small and charming mountain village in the western highlands of Panama, bordering Costa Rica and approximately 7 hours from Panama City. It is nestled between mountains on three sides, at the foot of Volcano Baru and has a beautiful river running through the center of town. It is surrounded by coffee farms and La Amistad International Peace Park.

Boquete’s Magnificent Climate

Boquete is known to have the most magnificent weather in the world, with perfect spring-like temperatures of 60 degrees to 80 degrees all year round. There is never a need for heat or air conditioning. Individuals bask in Boquete’s sunny and cool mountain weather and marvel at the exquisite vistas. Its healthy climate has prompted many to believe it is the secret to longevity since many native Boquetenos have lived well on past their one-hundredth birthdays.

Boquete has two basic seasons: the dry season (November-April) and the rainy season (May-October). However, even in the rainy season, the days start out sunny, with the rains starting around noon or so. Being only 9 degrees north of the equator, the length of the days do not vary much, with the sun rising and setting about the same time year round: 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. During the rainy season it is not unusual to

Bella Boquete!

see an array of beautiful rainbows, and sometimes two or three overlapping each other to form a breathtaking artistic vision. You will also experience one of the most beautiful phenomenon that nature has to offer: Bajareque, which is a rain that is so light, that walking through it will not dampen your clothes or make you wet. Bajareque is so light that it doesn’t fall to the earth; it floats. It is similar to that of a constant fine-mist.

Boquete’s Beautiful Mountainous Sites

The elevation of Boquete is 3,200 feet. You can explore the mountains around the town, which can climb to nearly 11,000 feet. The highest point in Panama is the rim of the extinct Volcano Baru, which is one of the only places in the world that both the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans can be seen.

Volcan Baru, offers incredible hiking opportunities including the Los Quetzales trail. Widely considered one of the most beautiful trails in Panama, Los Quetzales takes trekkers across the north side of Volcan Baru. Be sure to keep an eye out for the splendid Quetzal and wild orchids. Every traveler should take advantage of the birding opportunities when trekking these mountains –and there are plenty available, .

Pale-billed woodpeckers, quetzals, black-cheeked warblers, zeledonias, masked duck, Northern jacana, peg-billed finches, and many more. So, be sure to bring along a pair of binoculars, so that you will not miss out in these spectacular visions.

Boquete is Renown for Their Coffee

Boquete’s surrounding hills and slopes are primarily covered in shade-grown coffee plantations, providing a rich product recognized by international connoisseurs, and is considered one of the finest in the world. The altitude, constant spring-time climate, and diligent farmers create the ideal conditions for cultivating a delicious coffee crop. It has been favorably compared to other amazing coffees such as Kona and Jamaica Blue Mountain.

Coffee is primarily picked by the Guaymi Indians during the months of October through February. Coffee picking season is a festive time and colorfully clad Indian families come from various parts of the province to harvest coffee cherries.

Coincident with the coffee harvest is the Flower Festival. The gardens of Boquete are rivaled only by the great Mediterranean garden centers of California, Italy, and South Africa. This verdant production is best witnessed at the Festival, but can be seen throughout the year in a variety of contexts. Bromeliads cover the shade trees on the fincas. Deep flowerbeds adorn the inn.

Also, Mi Jardin es Su Jardin (My Garden is Your Garden) a horticultural Eden surrounding a private estate on the outskirts of Boquete, is rated as one of the top three private gardens in the world. This beautiful paradise is open to the public, and is located right off the main street just past Café Ruiz. Gardeners tend the beautiful flowers lovingly and welcome any and all quests. Mi Jardin es su Jardin is a peaceful but palpable example of how the people of Panama extend a thoughtful welcome to others.

Boquete Erupting

Boquete’s cool climate, fresh mountain air, lush valleys and small town appeal, are no longer the best kept secret in Panama. The New York Times, Chicago Tribute, as well as others, have alerted their readers to all that Panama has to offer---and in particular the Chiriqui province where Boquete is located.

With all that has been written about Boquete, many assume it is saturated with expats, overrun with speculative land prices, and basically sanitized by North American snowbirds. This is not true. Boquete is still a quaint Indian town with a charming town square where people gather and talk amid the local grocer, a pool hall and the central bus stop.

So,If you are looking for Paradise on earth, then come visit Boquete and, I am sure, once you have been here, you will never want to leave.
